Why I'd hand it to you
In the 1920s the Osage Nation in Oklahoma became wealthy from oil under their land, and then members started dying, shot, poisoned and blown up. Grann follows the murders and the young Bureau of Investigation, the early FBI, sent to solve them. Then, in the last section, he shows the killing went much wider than the official story ever admitted. It is careful reporting that reads fast. Fair warning: it is grim and the injustice is hard to sit with, and the final part shifts from story to Grann's own research, which some readers find less dramatic. It is the part that matters most, though.
