Privacy
Privacy
This is a simple site with book recommendations. It doesn't have accounts, logins or comments.
What this site collects
The site is a set of static pages. It doesn't ask for your name or email to read anything, and it doesn't set its own cookies. The only thing you can type in is the newsletter signup, covered below.
Like almost every website, the hosting service keeps basic technical logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to keep the site running and secure. I don't use those logs to identify anyone.
Analytics
I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see how fast pages load. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, and it doesn't track you across sites. Cloudflare's privacy policy covers the data it processes.
Amazon links and cookies
The "Buy on Amazon" buttons are affiliate links. When you click one, you leave this site, and Amazon may set cookies in your browser so it can tell the purchase came from here. Amazon's own privacy notice covers what happens on its site. See the affiliate disclosure for how the links work.
Newsletter
The newsletter is sent with Kit (kit.com). When you sign up, the email address you type is passed from this site to Kit, which stores the list and sends the emails. This site doesn't keep its own copy. Kit also keeps the technical details of the signup, such as the date and your IP address. Kit's privacy policy covers how it handles that data.
To keep bots off the list, the signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check that usually runs without you doing anything. Turnstile looks at technical signals from your browser, like your IP address, to tell people from bots, and Cloudflare uses them to improve that check, not for ads. Cloudflare's use of that data is covered by its Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Newsletter emails come from newsletter@mattsbooks.org. If you reply to one, your reply goes to hello@mattsbooks.org.
Signup is double opt-in: Kit emails you a link to confirm, and you're only added to the list after you click it. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, so you can leave anytime. You can also email hello@mattsbooks.org and ask to be removed.
Your email address is only used to send this newsletter. It isn't sold or shared with advertisers.
If you email hello@mattsbooks.org, your message and address are used to read and reply to it, and nothing else.
