Why I'd hand it to you
Michael Lewis follows a handful of misfit investors, including Michael Burry and Steve Eisman, who saw the 2008 housing crash coming and bet against it. Along the way he explains subprime mortgages, bond packaging and credit default swaps better than most textbooks. The characters are funny and strange, and the anger underneath is real. A couple of cautions. Even with Lewis's clear writing, the finance jargon can get thick, and the language is salty throughout. It also tells the story from the side of people who profited, which some readers find uncomfortable. For understanding how the system broke, it is one of the clearest tellings available.
