Why I'd hand it to you
Eddie Jaku survived Buchenwald, Auschwitz and a death march, lost much of his family, and later built a new life in Australia. He wrote this memoir when he was 100, and his message is that happiness is something you can choose and share, even after everything. It is short and gentle, written in very plain language. Some readers will find it too simple, especially if they want a detailed history of the Holocaust; this is more of a reflection than a full account. Pair it with Night if you want both the horror and the hope. As a book about gratitude, it is moving.
