Why I'd hand it to you
Neil deGrasse Tyson packs the basics of the universe into short chapters: the Big Bang, gravity, dark matter, dark energy and why the cosmos looks the way it does. Each one is short enough to finish in a sitting, and his enthusiasm is contagious. It is a nice gift for curious people who don't have time for a big science book. The trade-off is that it moves very fast. Some chapters cram in a lot of ideas without much explanation, so beginners may feel lost and science fans may feel it barely scratches the surface. Treat it as an appetizer, not the meal.
