Why I'd hand it to you
Anna Lembke, a Stanford psychiatrist who treats addiction, explains how the brain balances pleasure and pain, and why a constant stream of easy rewards, phones, food, shopping, drugs, can leave us more anxious and less happy. Her patients' stories make the science concrete, and her suggestion of a break from your drug of choice is simple. It is a timely book for anyone who feels hooked on their phone. Some care is needed here. Some patient stories are frank about sex and drugs, and the prescription is fairly simple for something as complicated as addiction. For serious struggles, it is a start, not a treatment plan.
