Why I'd hand it to you
C.S. Lewis gave these talks on BBC radio during World War II, and you can still hear a man speaking to ordinary listeners. He starts with the sense of right and wrong we all carry, moves to why he believes in God, and then lays out what Christians across traditions hold in common. It is clear, patient and often funny. Some of it shows its age, especially the chapters on marriage and gender roles, and skeptics will find his arguments open to debate. That is fair. For anyone curious about what Christianity actually claims, or a believer who wants to think it through more carefully, it is hard to find a better place to begin.
