Why I'd hand it to you
Robert Greene lays out forty-eight rules of power, each illustrated with stories from history, from royal courts to con men. Some of the laws are wise, and some are flatly ruthless, encouraging deception and using people. Readers use it to understand how power works, or to recognize when someone is playing these games on them. Be clear about what this is: an amoral book that doesn't care whether you are a good person. I wouldn't hand it to a teenager or anyone looking for a guide to living well. As a field guide to manipulation, it is informative, but read it defensively.
