Why I'd hand it to you
Tara Westover grew up in a survivalist family in rural Idaho, worked in her father's junkyard and never set foot in a classroom until she was seventeen. She taught herself enough to get into college and eventually earned a PhD from Cambridge. The heart of the book is the price of leaving the world you came from, including family members who turn against you. It is hard to put down and full of things to discuss. Know that there is violence and abuse, and some of her family members dispute her account. Read it as her truth, told with care.
